almost horror stories (close calls)
almost horror stories (close calls)
Well, not all of these stories are super terrifying, but I’ve had a few close calls where things could have turned out bad but luckily didn’t. Hehe thank you ancestors for watching over and protecting me! Obviously the endings are all good and I turned out okay but here’s some stories where I feel like it could’ve been an intro to a horror story.
I’ve actually mentioned some of these stories in the state’s stories (North Carolina and Virginia) but I’ll repeat them here if you’re only interested in reading these scary times and not all the fun I had too LOL.

........................ಠ_ಠ ......................... Shady Business in Roanoke, VA
Let’s start with Roanoke. Already a spooky place, which I didn’t know at that time, something definitely felt off about this town. I was spending a little more time here than most places for various reasons, I upgraded my phone and was waiting for Amazon packages to come in so I can pick them up at the locker locations and was also trying to relax and enjoy the mountains. This was the next “mountain town” aside from Asheville (where I fell in love…with the MOUNTAINS). Unfortunately, I had to flee Asheville and can probably never return (read about under North Carolina on my story for each state page) but didn’t want to let go of the mountain life. So I tried to bring it to Roanoke and continue it here. A little too much time in Roanoke perhaps, but I soon had to flee Roanoke as well.
Something definitely felt off, but not necessarily THAT weird. Until, one day I was shopping at the local mall before I go find a spot to sleep. I notice a car rushing to follow me out of the parking plaza. They had just left Taco Bell and I was coming from a different side. They probably saw my face since they were facing me. I tried not to look and be weird.
I noticed them following me so I drove in a circle, they still followed, and then I drove to an abandoned parking lot where I was planning to sleep for the night. I parked right dead in the middle. No one has any business coming to this parking lot, it’s abandoned and all the buildings are empty. They followed me, circled my car several times, parked in front of me, and then drove off. At this point I knew it was really suspicious and I was scared. I didn’t want to make eye contact in case they took it the wrong way and came out to attack me or something. I just kept my head down and waited for them to leave, ready to dial 911. I only caught a glimpse from the corner of my eye, but I think it was a male driver and two females in the car. I couldn’t really tell, but they looked like they were all friends and possibly working with each other(?).
I was trying to be positive and think of the possibilities. Maybe they thought they knew me, or recognized my car- no…that can’t be it. My car clearly has a California license plate, and specific plushies and decoration in the back window. Immediately upon looking at my car, literally anyone can tell that someone lives out of it. They probably saw that I was a young girl and alone… sleep was not going to be easy tonight.
I pondered about sleeping at the police station and alerting them of it. But I didn’t really want to deal with the cops. I don’t have a great history with police and I didn’t like the thought of relying on them. I did watch the car leave, so I at least know they left. Did they take my plates though? Are they gonna try to find me later? I knew I had to leave, and now I feel very unsafe. There’s not that many places to sleep in cars in Roanoke to begin with so I decide to get myself a hotel. I kept watch through the night and tried to park where they wouldn’t be able to easily recognise my car. I treated myself to a bath with a tweaking light bulb and questioned if I should have just gone to the police. In the morning I picked up my package from the local Amazon locker and left Roanoke for good. I was very alert with all the cars I passed on the drive and made sure no one was following me or being suspicious.

............................L(՞ਊ՞)」.........................A Psychotic Druggie Attack(?) in Asheville, NC
If you read my story for North Carolina, then you already know this story. I also put it under my other story page “sleepless nights & shitty times.” It was one of my first nights sleeping in North Carolina and I was in an abandoned parking lot since all the Walmarts don’t allow overnight parking. There was almost nowhere I could find that would let me sleep there. I already gotten kicked out of a Walmart parking lot, and I didn’t have many options. The only car in this abandoned parking lot other than an abandoned RV in the corner, some drugged out fat old white man came knocking on my door yelling at me to come out. He said “you’re safe here, come on out come on out!” over and over. I was terrified. I started shaking and crying and immediately took down all my window coverings and drove straight out. At first I grabbed my taser and pepper spray and then realised I’m totally safe inside my car and wasn’t planning to open my door or window so I was like wtf am i doing LOL and just started the car and drove off. This was a short story but it ended well and was terrifying. One of the few times that had me shaking and crying. You can read more about my adventure in North Carolina under the page “a story for each state” under “north carolina”.

......................(;;;*_*)..................... Danger in Delaware!!
Sleeping in parking lots is scary. But recognizing you’re being followed is scarier. This story started in Delaware, one of the states where I actually posted where I was at the time. Not the exact location, but I put on my IG stories that I was at a beach in Delaware. Now, Delaware is not a very big state, it SURELY can’t be that hard to find me in the entirety of Delaware in a day. Especially knowing that I sleep at Walmart parking lots primarily, literally just drive to any and you’ll probably find me (at this time). I knew it was risky posting my location, but I thought, well it seems safe here..
After beach hopping, I happily drove over to the Walmart I was planning to sleep at. I’m ready to cook dinner in my car and have a relaxing night. After going to the beach I often forget to put clothes on and I just drive in my bikini (that’s legal right?) and I often forget to put pants on as I exit my car and start walking towards the grocery store. Anyway, I park near the back in a potential sleeping spot and get up to go grocery shopping for dinner and use the bathroom while Walmart is still open. Strangely, a car that had also drove to Walmart, (I didn’t think they were following me, thought they just wanted to go shopping at Walmart like a normal person) pulls up next to my car in the back of the lot. Bro has the ENTIRE parking lot, many spots at the front available. Why park in the back, where there’s even more spots, but why specifically next to me? I try not to look into the car and make eye contact so I just look straight ahead and try to see in the corner of my eye. Seemed like an older man, and he definitely saw me in my bikini by myself in a car that is clearly lived out of. I was like WELL SHIT there goes my sleeping spot for the night I’m gonna have to move. But first, let me at least buy groceries. Surely this guy won’t try anything in broad daylight (well evening) in front of many other customers at Walmart.
After grocery shopping I almost forgot that there was a suspicious individual. Though just before I went in I saw his car leave and peeped a glance. It was an old Dodge charger, I recognize those tail lights anywhere. He drove off and I went shopping. When I came back he was not there and I think, okay I should probably at least move parking spots, but I think I’m safe (?). I don’t know why I was so lazy this day but I cooked and ate first and then was like, eh maybe I don’t need to move. It was dark now and I didn’t like driving in the dark. Since this was going to be my sleeping spot, I set up camp and put my window coverings up.
Of course, at some point through the night, a car pulls up to me. I can hear it, and I peep behind my curtain. They then move to the spot in front of me, turn around and face headlights to me. I watched from an opening between my window coverings. Sure enough, an old Dodge charger was back and kept their lights on blaring into my car. I was ready to take everything down and leave, but didn’t want them to see me at all…so I waited and eventually they left. This really should’ve been my cue to leave but as I’m looking for other places to sleep and the nearest police station (to possibly sleep at), an RV arrives and parks very close to me but far enough to give personal space. They were practically right across from me. Hopefully, close enough that if something happened and I screamed they’d hear me.
Not only did the RV arrive, but they DETACHED. That means they’re definitely staying for the night. I watched the opening, and saw that it was an innocent looking family. I really don’t know why I was SO tired and was avoiding driving, but I decided to take my chances and slept there for the night. I was so so tired I slept well and woke up safely. Probably not my safest decision, but it turned out fine. I left Delaware the next day.

...........▓▒░(°◡°)░▒▓.......... Some smaller stories
This isn’t really an intro to a horror story but it definitely could have ended badly. I was exploring Breaks Interstate in Virginia and was on the phone with my ex-best friend, too lazy to put my phone in my backpack to climb down a rock I was bouldering, I tried to climb down with one hand. I’m on the top of a cliff and it’s a long deadly way down. Of course, I fall but luckily I’m inland enough to not fall OFF the cliff but ON the cliff lol. I tumbled down a ways and my whole body was shaken up and I had minor injuries. If I had hurt myself more severely, it definitely would’ve been bad considering some parts of the area was spotty with signal and there was absolutely no one there to help me lol.
There was also this one time in North Carolina where I slipped and fell down a waterfall. It was kinda fun minus being terrified of where the waterfall would spit me out LOL.
There was also this one time in a Walmart Parking lot where some guy came up to my sleeping spot and asked if I wanted to get a pack of beers with him at Walmart. And then tried to talk to me about sleeping in my car like I had lost my mind lol. Wasn’t too scary, I just left and parked somewhere else, but definitely glad he didn’t like try to murder me in the middle of the night or anything haha.

***TRIGGER WARNING: being taken advantage of/ r_pe***
Please, if this is a sensitive topic, will make you angry/ upset, or if you don’t have the heart to feel for situations like this please stop reading here. I don’t want to receive any messages about this story, I don’t want sympathy, I don’t want to talk about it over and over, and I certainly don’t need “you should’ve this or that.” With close friends I am open to talking about it as it’s a story that helped shaped me and bring me to be a stronger person, and I’m only sharing this because it was something that happened, that people should be aware of and try to prevent, and because I know some people are genuinely curious about the story. This is just a taste of reality, real life things that happen unfortunately, and I don’t want any attention towards it really. If you read this out of curiosity, please just leave it at that and pretend you never read it.
